Gluten-Free Wedding and Honeymoon

It has been over a month since Bryson and I got married, and I finally found a few minutes to sit down and write a blog post about our fairy tale wedding day and honeymoon.

Worrying about avoiding gluten was a non-issue on our wedding day, because our caterer provided all gluten-free foods for the reception. We had Italian salad, roast beef, lemon pepper chicken, roasted carrots, mashed potatoes and green beans. The food was delicious.

Also, the top tier of our cake was gluten-free (separated with a cardboard divider to avoid cross contamination). The bottom two tiers were normal gluten-filled cake. Instead of cutting the bottom tier of the cake like couples traditionally do, we cut the top tier so we could feed each other the first piece of cake. Being able to enjoy cutting the cake with my husband was really important to me. I am glad we figured out a way to make sure it could happen while giving the rest of our guests normal cake.

Our honeymoon was also incredible. We went to Antigua Sandals Resort. I was nervous about the resort being able to accommodate my dietary needs, but Sandals far exceeded my expectations. We had a blast enjoying the beach, snorkeling and great food!


Sandals set up a meeting with the us and the head chef on the first day we arrived at the resort to make sure I was taken care of for our entire stay. The head chef, Amit, was happy to help. He asked me if I was gluten intolerant or had celiac disease, so I knew he was educated on the topic.

Together, we made a schedule of when and where Bryson and I would eat on the resort. Amit made reservations for us and spoke with all the restaurants’ chefs to make sure they were expecting me. He even gave me a bag of gluten-free cookies to keep in my room!


It was so nice not to worry about what I was going to eat each day on our honeymoon. I was able to relax and truly enjoy the trip. The best thing I ate on the entire trip was chocolate lava cake. It was divine. I also loved the gluten-free pizza they served. We may or may not have ate pizza for lunch four times while we were there. Oops! It was the best pizza I have had in years.


I will definitely stay at a sandals resort again, and I highly recommend it to my fellow gluten-free eaters.
